Frequently asked questions

What types of knit fabric do you produce?
GARVETTI supplies performance fabrics for cycling, running and other activewear, including moisture-wicking mesh, jacquard knits, nylon-spandex interlock, lightweight rib, high-stretch warp knits and thermal fleece. Examples include ZT555 grid mesh, FQK004/1600 interlock, ZN454 rib and ZS158 dense warp-knit fabric. We also offer stretch wovens, PU/TPU membrane laminates and anti-slip elastic bands for garment bodies, ventilation panels, shorts and cuffs.
What weight range do you work in?
The current GARVETTI catalogue spans nominal fabric weights of approximately 55–410 g/m², with tolerances specified by fabric code. Examples include PSC2613 lightweight windproof laminate at 55±5 g/m², PSHK2678 lightweight stretch fabric at 75±5 g/m², ZT555 mesh at 100±5 g/m², SN2302 cycling-shorts fabric at 240±10 g/m² and PSZ2771 laminate at 410±15 g/m². Select the weight together with the season, garment panel, coverage and insulation requirements.
What yarns do you use?
Our main fibre systems are polyester, nylon and spandex, with functional yarns selected for the application. ZS727 contains 66% moisture-wicking polyester, 22% polyester and 12% spandex. SN2302 contains 59% nylon and 41% spandex. ZT717-1 is listed as 88% recycled Coolmax® polyester and 12% Lycra® spandex, while PSCC2023008 includes 35% Thermolite®. Laminated fabrics list face and backing compositions separately. Always refer to the specifications for the selected fabric code.
Should I choose single jersey or interlock?
Compare single jersey and interlock by weight, stretch, handfeel and the coverage required in the finished garment. Construction alone does not determine thickness. GARVETTI's FQK001/1600 is a lightweight interlock with 75% nylon and 25% spandex at 120±10 g/m². FQK004/1600 contains 71% nylon and 29% spandex at 200±10 g/m². Both list moisture-wicking performance. If low weight and ventilation are priorities, include our mesh fabrics in the sampling process and assess the finished garment.
Where is rib fabric used?
Rib fabrics are commonly used where stretch and close fit are needed, and can also serve as lightweight activewear fabrics. GARVETTI's ZN454 nylon-spandex rib contains 71% nylon and 29% spandex, weighs 80±5 g/m² and is 180 cm wide. Listed uses include cycling jerseys and bib-strap connection panels, with moisture-wicking and breathable properties. For cuffs or hems that need grip, consider our F101 or F102 anti-slip bands separately; these are different products from standard rib fabric.
What is the difference between two-thread and three-thread fleece?
Two-thread and three-thread generally describe the yarn arrangement in terry knitting, while brushing is a process that raises fibres into a fleece surface. They are different specifications. GARVETTI's thermal options include PSCC2023008 fine-grid fleece at 220±10 g/m² with 35% Thermolite®, and PSZ2617, a laminate combining 20D double-knit fabric, a PU membrane and high-density single-sided fleece at 160±15 g/m². If you need a specific two-thread or three-thread sweatshirt fabric, send a swatch so we can confirm the construction and supply feasibility.
Which net and mesh structures do you produce?
GARVETTI's mesh and mesh-jacquard options include ZT555 grid mesh at 100±5 g/m², ZT555-1 grid mesh at 110±5 g/m², ZS364 crystal-ball mesh at 95±5 g/m², ZT556 round-chain mesh jacquard at 80±5 g/m² and ZX2502 chain-mesh jacquard at 100±5 g/m². Compare the opening pattern, coverage under stretch, printing requirements and garment panel. ZD2212 air-layer waffle is a separate thermal construction and should not be treated as equivalent to three-layer spacer mesh.
When is Raschel (warp knitting) the right choice?
A suitable warp-knit fabric is worth considering when cycling shorts require stretch, coverage and abrasion resistance. GARVETTI's ZS158 is a dense high-stretch warp knit with 73% nylon and 27% spandex, weighing 280±5 g/m² at 135 cm wide. It is listed for opacity, abrasion resistance and compression applications. Raschel is one type of warp knitting, not a name for all warp knits. If you specifically require Raschel, power net or a particular opening pattern, send the construction requirements or a reference swatch for confirmation.
Is there an rPET version of your fabrics?
Yes. GARVETTI currently lists ZT717-1 with 88% recycled Coolmax® polyester and 12% Lycra® spandex, at 125±5 g/m² and 165 cm wide. It is intended for cycling jerseys and activewear, with moisture-wicking and digital transfer printing listed. If you need a recycled version of another construction, or procurement documents such as GRS certification or a Transaction Certificate, specify this in your enquiry so the eligible fabric and documentation can be confirmed. Recycled options and certification should not be assumed for every fabric.
Can we get a sample before ordering?
You can request samples from GARVETTI before placing a bulk order. Please provide the fabric codes, intended use, colour preference and delivery country. Our team will confirm sample availability and the next steps. Use physical samples to assess handfeel, stretch, thickness, colour and print appearance before selecting bulk fabric. Sample size, quantity, charges, shipping costs and dispatch timing are confirmed for each request.
How do we set the elastane (spandex) ratio?
Choose the spandex ratio together with the garment panel, construction, weight, stretch force and recovery requirements. A higher percentage is not automatically a better fit for the application. GARVETTI's lightweight ZS364 mesh contains 7% spandex and ZT555 mesh contains 13%. FQK004/1600 interlock contains 29%, while SN2302 and SN2303 cycling-shorts fabrics contain 41% and 42%. Define the required fit and support, then evaluate stretch, recovery and garment fit using samples. Compression cannot be determined from fibre percentages alone.
What is the fabric width, and does it come tubular or open-width?
Width is specified by fabric code. ZS364 is listed at 190 cm, ZT555 at 125 cm, FQK004/1600 at 160 cm and PSZ2617 at 142 cm. Anti-slip bands have their own widths: F101-30 is 3 cm wide and F103-80 is 8 cm wide. Fabric width, finished band width and slitting width are different specifications. Please state the usable cutting width you need and whether open-width or tubular delivery is required, so the supply format can be confirmed.
How is shrinkage behaviour controlled?
Shrinkage and dimensional stability need to be confirmed for the selected fabric, colour, processing route and wash conditions. GARVETTI does not apply one universal figure to every fabric. Please provide the intended care procedure, test method and acceptable limits with your enquiry. For transfer-printed or laminated products, dimensional changes after processing should also be evaluated. We recommend validating an approval sample and recording the applicable test conditions and acceptance requirements in the order specification before bulk supply.
Do you share fastness and pilling results?
Please provide the fabric code, colour and the required standards and grades for washing, rubbing, light fastness or pilling. GARVETTI can then confirm the available information and testing arrangements for your project. For example, ZT518-1 lists high colour fastness, and some woven styles describe anti-pilling properties. These descriptions do not replace a test report under a specified method. If the results are acceptance criteria, agree on the sample, test conditions and required grades before bulk supply.
Which finishes can you apply?
GARVETTI's functional specifications vary by fabric code. ZT555 mesh lists moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties, PSHK2678 lists yellowing resistance, PSZ2617 laminate lists a C0 water-repellent finish, and FD001-500 arm-sleeve fabric lists UPF 40+. Some properties come from yarns or construction and others from finishing; every function cannot be assumed available on every fabric. For custom requirements, share your performance and wash-durability targets so feasibility can be assessed. Grades and durability require applicable testing.
Are your fabrics suitable for sublimation printing?
Selected fabrics are suitable. Several GARVETTI white polyester-spandex fabrics list digital transfer printing, including ZT555, ZT717-1 and PSHK2678. Certain white anti-slip bands, such as F101-70, also list this process. Confirm the fabric code first, then run a print trial using your intended temperature, dwell time, pressure and artwork to check colour, dimensions and stretch. Nylon-spandex fabrics, dark substrates and laminates should not automatically be processed using standard polyester sublimation settings.
Can I get a technical data sheet for each fabric?
GARVETTI product pages provide core specifications by fabric code, including composition, width, weight, colour, functions and recommended uses. Send us your selected codes to confirm the specification information needed for your project. If you require a separate PDF technical data sheet or reports on stretch recovery, shrinkage, colour fastness, UPF or waterproof/breathability performance, list those requirements so document availability and scope can be confirmed. Product specifications and laboratory test reports should be checked separately.
Can we request a custom weight and color?
You can submit custom colour and weight requirements to GARVETTI. Selected laminates, including PSZ2617 and PSZ2620, already list custom colours on request. Weight changes need to be assessed against the construction, yarns and laminate structure. Please provide the fabric code or reference sample, target weight and tolerance, colour reference, expected quantity and required timing. Feasible specifications, minimum order quantity, cost and lead time are confirmed for the individual proposal and approved sample.
Can you develop a fabric that is not in the catalogue?
You can submit requirements for a fabric outside the current catalogue for GARVETTI to assess suitable sourcing or development options. Describe the garment and panel, target composition, weight, width, handfeel, stretch, printing and functional requirements, and include a reference swatch where possible. Our cycling, running, jacquard, laminated-fabric and anti-slip-band ranges provide a starting point for finding a suitable option or discussing further development. Feasibility, sampling costs, minimum order quantity and timing are confirmed by project.
