Industry Brief: Stretch Textiles and Tour Jerseys

GARVETTI Industry Brief
Two developments caught our attention this week: new directions in stretch fabric engineering and a major cycling kit partnership.
Stretch textiles at PERFORMANCE DAYS
ROICA by Asahi Kasei brought fabric developments from nine partners to PERFORMANCE DAYS Munich on 13–14 October. The examples span breathable mesh, three-dimensional knits, warp-knit structures and engineered stretch materials for activewear and cycling apparel.
GARVETTI perspective: The common theme is precise fabric construction. Stretch alone is no longer enough; brands also need to consider recovery, ventilation, surface texture and how a fabric behaves in a finished garment. Environmental claims should be checked against the specific fibre, test method and finished fabric.

Castelli returns to the Tour de France yellow jersey
Cyclingnews reports that Castelli has been named the new kit partner for ASO events, including the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes, beginning in 2027. The partnership puts cycling apparel back in a highly visible racing setting.
GARVETTI perspective: Elite race clothing attracts attention, but its value also depends on fit, comfort and reliable production. For fabric developers, the opportunity is to translate lessons from high-performance apparel into practical materials for more riders.
